Who We Are

Mission & History

The Prairie Learning Center was formed from the dream Walt Odegaard had to have a very simple common sense approach to giving children an opportunity to be successful amidst tough backgrounds and environments they may have experienced.  The utilization of walking and talking with youth that had been referred to Prairie Learning Center and the outdoors was the foundation to building trust and positive relationships in their lives.

The Prairie Learning Center serves as a private non-profit residential childcare center providing a 24 hour/7-day a week educational group living program to accommodate the needs of at risk youth throughout ND with Educational, behavioral, deprived, unruly, delinquent and addiction challenges in a structured setting.  We provide the following services:

  • Individual and group counseling
  • Family workshops
  • Psychological services
  • Social and Independent life skills training
  • Addiction treatment
  • Grief and loss counseling
  • Educational services
  • Outdoor experiential training
  • Equine Assisted Programming

The objectives of our programs are to teach social control, socially acceptable behavior and to develop a more positive self-image.  Through the many services, our hope is to give each child the resources and tools to go back into their home and community to do great things. And it takes a team to do so.  It is the Prairie Learning Center’s commitment to strive to meet the new challenges of today and the ever growing concerns of our communities we serve.
